Google showing less backlinks than others? | No Worries!

Backlinks are links that are pointed to your website and sometimes we call it the external links. There are a few ways to find out how many backlinks you got and the most common way is to use the command - link:http://www.yourwebsite.com at the Google search bar.

A common question from Internet Marketers are why they are receiving just a small proportion of the links as compared to using other search engines. To compare the results between Google and Yahoo, you can type - linkdomain:http://www.yourwebsite.com at the Yahoo search bar where you will be redirected to Yahoo Site Explorer to see the number of backlinks you have. From the result, you will find that Google’s result is minimal as compared to what is displayed at Yahoo.

So back to the question - why do Google show less backlinks than others? Rumour has it that Google only shows quality sites that are pointing to you and they are at least a PR4 sites. But from my research, it doesn’t seems to be the way. Haha! That is why I said it is a rumour as nobody really knows how Google does their algorithm from that link command. And because of some business sense, they just don’t show all to their competitors. Keeping all their cards to their chest.

In order to see a more accurate backlinks using Google, the best free tool at the moment is the Google Webmasters Tools. Inside, you will be able to see the number of external links and internal links to and from your site. As mentioned earlier, external links represents the backlinks you got. It will be a lot more than the link command but will still be less than why you got from using competitors’ search engines.

Therefore, do not be alarmed and worry if you find that your Google backlinks are so little because back there, you know you have lots of sites pointing to you. Just continue to work on your link building and you will reap the fruits later.
